PopUp Bagels Opens Second Charlotte Location in Plaza Midwood This Friday

The “rip and dip” bagel shop is bringing hot bagels, rotating schmears and a Harriet’s Hamburgers collab to 1606 Commonwealth Ave.

If you have lived in Charlotte for more than five minutes, you know the breakfast scene is having a moment.

This Friday, July 10, 2026, that momentum continues in Plaza Midwood.

PopUp Bagels is officially opening its second Charlotte location at 1606 Commonwealth Ave.

Quick Bite: PopUp Bagels opens in Plaza Midwood this Friday at 8 AM with hot, whole bagels, rotating schmears and a limited-time Harriet’s Hamburgers collaboration.

The Connecticut-born bagel shop is known for its signature “rip and dip” style. If you visited the first Charlotte location at The Bowl at Ballantyne, you already know the drill. If not, the concept is simple: skip the slicing, tear into a hot bagel and dip it straight into the schmear.

You can read more about the opening from Charlotte Newsroom and Axios Charlotte.

The Rip and Dip Experience

PopUp Bagels is not your traditional bagel shop. Do not expect sliced bagels, toasted sandwiches or a giant menu.

These bagels are served whole, hot and fresh. You grab one, rip it apart and dip it into cream cheese, butter or one of the rotating specialty spreads.

It turns a quick breakfast into something more social, messy and fun. Whether you are grabbing a 3-pack for yourself or a 12-pack for the office, the rules stay the same: no slices, just rips.

What’s on the Menu?

PopUp Bagels keeps the menu tight so the focus stays on quality.

Core bagel options include plain, salt, poppy, sesame and everything. Standard spreads include plain cream cheese, scallion cream cheese and salted butter.

Opening Weekend Pick: For the Plaza Midwood launch, PopUp Bagels is teaming up with Harriet’s Hamburgers for a limited-time “Good Good Schmear” made with Harriet’s popular Good Good Sauce.

The brand has also made its Brown Sugar Cinnamon Butter a permanent menu item after heavy demand from fans. It is sweet, salty and built for anyone who likes breakfast to lean a little dessert-adjacent.

Why Plaza Midwood Makes Sense

Plaza Midwood has always been one of Charlotte’s best food neighborhoods, and the Commonwealth development has added even more momentum.

PopUp Bagels joins a strong lineup nearby, including Maman, Sweetgreen, Uchi, Uchibā and Harriet’s Hamburgers.

The Plaza Midwood opening is also part of a larger North Carolina expansion plan. The Charlotte Observer has more details on the brand’s growth plans.

The Bottom Line

Charlotte’s bagel scene keeps getting better, and PopUp Bagels brings something different to Plaza Midwood.

It is simple, warm, messy and made to share. That is probably why the concept has caught on so quickly.

See you in line Friday.
