Charlotte is about to become a much bigger name in professional tennis.

The Women’s Tennis Association announced that the WTA Finals will come to Charlotte from 2027 through 2029, with the first three tournaments set for Spectrum Center.

The season-ending event brings together the year’s top singles players and doubles teams, making it one of the most high-profile stops on the women’s tennis calendar.

For Charlotte, it means three consecutive years of global sports attention, visiting fans, hotel stays, restaurant traffic, and another reason for major events to take a serious look at the city.

This did not happen overnight. Charlotte has been building its tennis profile through the Charlotte Invitational, which has already brought major names in the sport to Uptown. Now the city has landed an event that puts it on the international tennis calendar.

Why it matters: Charlotte is no longer just trying to attract big events. It is starting to stack them. The WTA Finals adds to the city’s growing sports-and-entertainment case, while giving locals a chance to see the world’s best women’s players without leaving town.

The first Charlotte WTA Finals are scheduled for November 2027.
