Citi Bringing 500+ High-Paying Jobs to Ballantyne in Major Expansion

Ballantyne is leveling up fast.

Between new parks, restaurants, and “The Bowl,” South Charlotte is turning into one of the hottest destinations in the city.

Now, a major banking move is adding fuel to the fire.

Citi just opened a new office expansion — and it’s bringing 500+ high-paying jobs with it.

What’s Happening

Citi is investing $16.1 million into a new office at Ballantyne Corporate Park.

The space spans about 90,000 square feet inside the Gragg Building.

This expansion will house Citigroup Technology and support rapid hiring across Charlotte.

It’s one of the biggest job announcements in the area this year.

500+ Jobs Coming Fast

Citi plans to add 510 new jobs by 2027.

Even better — about 400 hires are expected by April 2026.

That means hiring is happening right now.

These roles span multiple departments:

  • Risk management

  • Client credit

  • Personal banking and retail cards

  • Finance

  • Marketing

  • Technology and data

Let’s Talk Salary

The average salary for these roles is estimated at $131,000+.

That’s significantly higher than Mecklenburg County’s average of about $90,000.

This isn’t just job growth — it’s high-income job growth.

Before this expansion, Citi had around 350 employees locally.

This move nearly triples their Charlotte workforce.

Why Ballantyne?

While Uptown gets most of the attention, Ballantyne offers something different.

It’s quieter, greener, and more campus-style.

Employees get access to walking trails, open space, and less congestion.

Plus, the “Ballantyne Reimagined” development puts dining, entertainment, and events right outside the office.

Big Economic Impact

This deal came with incentives — including up to $8.9 million in state tax benefits.

Local governments added about $375,000 in support.

In return, the project is expected to generate $2.7 billion in economic impact over the next decade.

That means more business for restaurants, housing, and local services.

Community Investment

Citi is also giving back locally.

They donated $50,000 to Nourish Up and committed 500 volunteer hours.

They’ve also supported affordable housing projects across Charlotte.

It’s a strong signal they’re here long-term.
