Waymo, which operates in ten cities nationwide, has not confirmed its plans, and North Carolina transportation officials declined to comment.
State law already permits autonomous vehicles across North Carolina, giving companies like Waymo a legal pathway to operate in Charlotte without needing city approval.
Local reaction is mixed.
