🍽️ Farewell to a Charlotte Classic: Bar-B-Q King to Close After 60+ Years 😢

After more than six decades serving up Carolina barbecue and nostalgia on Wilkinson Boulevard, the beloved Bar-B-Q King is preparing to close its doors for good on November 1st.

The family behind the drive-in confirmed that the property has been sold and they were given 30 days to vacate. It’s a bittersweet goodbye for a spot that’s been part of Charlotte’s dining story since the 1960s—where you could pull up, press a speaker button, and enjoy your meal from the comfort of your car.

Former operators and longtime patrons alike are reminiscing about the memories made there. One longtime employee even shared their go-to combo: the “cowboy sandwich” and a Cheerwine—a Charlotte classic if there ever was one.

Though this chapter is ending, the family hinted they may bottle their signature sauce or find a new home for the restaurant in the future.

Watch the full WCNC story here to hear from the family and see why this closing has the Queen City saying, “Say it ain’t so.”
