Fuerza del Este, a new effort by nonprofit CharlotteEast, aims to revitalize East Charlotte’s local businesses after widespread disruptions from recent federal immigration enforcement. The campaign encourages residents to shop and dine at immigrant-owned establishments throughout December, offering gift card rewards for spending at participating locations. With more than 400 independent businesses in East Charlotte—about 70% of them immigrant-owned—many faced closures and lost an average of $2,500 per day due to reduced customer turnout and safety fears. By uploading receipts from eligible shops and restaurants, customers can earn substantial gift cards, supporting both the local economy and community resilience. Highlighted participating spots include Manolo’s Bakery, Lang Van, Queen Sheba Ethiopian, and Why Not Pizza, reflecting the community’s rich multicultural flavors. Residents are encouraged to explore these local gems, knowing every purchase fuels recovery for hardworking business owners and their families. Read More... |
