āļø Uptown Café Brewing More Than Coffee |
At the corner of kindness and second chances, youāll find Community Matters CafĆ©.
Tucked under the Uptown skyline, this bright little spot is serving more than breakfast sandwiches and cappuccinos ā itās serving hope. The cafĆ© is run by the Charlotte Rescue Mission, a nonprofit thatās been helping neighbors rebuild their lives since 1938. Every barista, server, and smiling face behind the counter is part of a training program that teaches life and job skills to people in recovery.
Jeff Elliott, one of the programās participants, calls it āsticky changeā ā the kind that lasts. For him and so many others, each cup poured represents a new beginning.
So next time youāre Uptown, grab a latte and look around. Youāre not just supporting a cafĆ© ā youāre fueling transformation, one coffee at a time.

The delay comes as teams focus on building a structure designed to last decades. Library Director Caitlin Moen highlights the priority of sustainability and craftsmanship over speed.
This transformative library will offer cutting-edge technology, open-air areas, an immersive theater, and a 2,500-square-foot cafƩ overlooking the city.
Plans include a modern Tryon Plaza with ADA accessibility and an automated book return. Funding for the $137 million project combines public investment with private philanthropy, with about $8 million left to raise.
