New housing developments are rising across the city. Teachers are getting new pathways to homeownership. Workforce programs are opening doors to skilled careers. |
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is launching a new initiative to help teachers secure affordable homes in the city where they work.
A partnership with Ascension CDC and Kingdom Development Partners opens a 12-month program for 25 qualifying educators, offering credit counseling, homeownership education, and pathways to building generational wealth.
Teachers who complete the program will have homes reserved for them at developments in West Charlotte and University City.
While market values may reach $400,000, participating educators can access deeply reduced mortgages from $265,000 to $285,000, eased further by down payment assistance and tax credits.
Though the pilot is small, partners hope it sparks a transformative shift, letting teachers buy in the communities they serve and laying the foundation for long-term stability and ownership.
The effort is a cornerstone of CMS’s larger “At Home in CMS” campaign to retain talented educators locally. Read More... |
