A Bridge to Bring Charlotte Together |
South End and Uptown are finally getting connected—on foot Anyone who's tried to walk from South End to Uptown knows the struggle. I-277 has long stood as an imposing barrier between two of Charlotte's most vibrant neighborhoods, forcing pedestrians to navigate busy intersections and highway on-ramps. That's about to change. Construction has officially begun on the Rail Trail Bridge, a $16.4 million pedestrian and bicycle bridge that will finally span I-277. The project was first discussed in 2019, approved earlier this year, and is now becoming reality.

Construction is now underway on Eastland Park, a 4.5-acre urban green space bringing fresh life to east Charlotte.
Situated along Central Avenue close to North Sharon Amity Road, the park forms the centerpiece of the larger Eastland Yards redevelopment.
