CLT Beyond Would Bring $2.1B in New Airport Upgrades |
The proposed airline agreement includes a larger Concourse C, a passenger tunnel and nearly a dozen projects across Charlotte Douglas |

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is laying out its next major growth plan, and this one is much bigger than the last.
A proposed new Airline Use and Lease Agreement with American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest and United would launch CLT Beyond, a roughly $2.1 billion capital program pending Charlotte City Council approval.
The plan includes a significant expansion of Concourse C, additional gates and a new passenger tunnel connecting the expanded concourse to the main terminal.
It also calls for international-arrivals renovations, airfield improvements tied to the fourth parallel runway, critical infrastructure upgrades and planning for future international-gate and atrium expansions.
The scale is the headline: airport leaders told City Council the program is about four times larger than the roughly $460 million capital package negotiated under the previous airline agreement.
The proposed deal would establish a 10.5-year relationship with the five signatory airlines, with the possibility of an extension.
Airport officials have said they are preparing for continued passenger and airline growth while trying to improve how travelers move through one of the country’s busiest connecting hubs.
Nothing in CLT Beyond is a finished passenger amenity yet.
The agreement still requires City Council approval, and construction schedules will vary by project.
But for Charlotte travelers, the proposal offers the clearest look yet at what the airport’s next generation could include. |
