Charlotte has no shortage of pumpkin patches, but the experience changes a lot depending on what you actually want from the day.

Some farms are best for a quick pumpkin stop close to the city, while others are built around hayrides, corn mazes, playgrounds, food and enough activities to fill most of an afternoon.

This guide focuses on pumpkin patches that are open for the 2026 season and uses each farm’s own published information wherever possible.

Hodges Family Farm — best if you want to stay in Charlotte

Hodges Family Farm is the easiest option if you want a real farm experience without leaving Charlotte.

The Century Farm on Rocky River Road is open for pumpkin season from September 26 through October 31, 2026, with daily hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There is no general admission fee, making it especially easy for families who mainly want pumpkins, photos and a little time outdoors.

Daily activities include pumpkins, hay bales, barnyard animals, photo areas and picnic space.

On weekends, the farm adds hayrides, treats and its farm shop, with a $5 parking fee and $5 hayrides for guests older than 2.

Best for: a low-cost Charlotte outing without a long drive.

The Hunter Farm — best for younger kids and animal lovers

The Hunter Farm in Weddington combines its pumpkin patch with one of the more hands-on animal experiences around Charlotte.

The 2026 fall season runs September 25 through November 1.

Its signature experience is a wagon ride to an interactive petting barn where guests can feed and interact with farm animals.

Each wagon rider also receives a complimentary pie pumpkin.

The farm has NC-grown pumpkins and gourds, a market barn and Farm Fridays featuring live music and food trucks on select dates.

Tuesday visits are pumpkin-patch-only, while wagon rides operate later in the week and on weekends.

Best for: families who care as much about animals and the farm experience as the pumpkin itself.

Wise Acres Organic Farm — best for pizza and a relaxed farm afternoon

Wise Acres in Indian Trail takes a slightly different approach to fall.

Farm visits are reservation-only, and its fall season generally runs from mid-September into early November.

The farm offers pumpkin and flower-field access, playgrounds, animals, a scavenger hunt and a small sunn hemp maze.

Guests can choose a lower-cost fall-fun reservation or book packages that include wood-fired Wise Pie pizza.

Optional activities include wagon rides, a corn pit and barrel train rides for children.

This is one of the better choices if you want the pumpkin patch to feel like a casual family hangout rather than a packed fall festival.

Best for: families who want farm activities plus food and space to hang out.

Carrigan Farms — best for picking a pumpkin right off the vine

If the actual pumpkin-picking experience matters most, Carrigan Farms in Mooresville is one of the strongest options.

The farm grows more than 20 acres of pumpkins and lets visitors take a hayride into the field to choose and cut a pumpkin directly from the vine.

Pumpkin season runs October 1 through October 31, 2026, and advance reservations are required.

Carrigan says the best pumpkin selection is generally earlier in the season.

The farm is roughly 40 minutes from Uptown Charlotte according to its own directions page.

Weekend visitors can also find seasonal treats such as apple cider doughnuts and cider slushies.

Best for: anyone who wants a true pick-your-own pumpkin experience.

Almond Farm — best for an all-in-one fall festival

Almond Farm in Concord is less about simply buying a pumpkin and more about building a full fall day around the visit.

Its 2026 Fall Festival runs September 26 through November 1, Wednesday through Sunday.

General fall activities include the pumpkin patch, corn maze, farm animals, jump pad and hayride.

The farm is about 30 minutes from Charlotte and has expanded its parking and entrance setup for 2026.

Best for: families looking for multiple activities at one stop.

Outlaw Acres — best for kids who want more than a pumpkin patch

Outlaw Acres in Monroe leans heavily into entertainment.

Its 2026 fall season runs from September 19 through November 1, with public hours on Saturdays and Sundays.

The farm combines fall activities with an Old West theme and has added a large tubing slide for 2026.

There are also treats, coffee and additional kid-focused attractions throughout the property.

Best for: children who may get bored if the outing is only pumpkins and photos.

Shelby Corn Maze — best if you want a big fall day trip

Shelby Corn Maze is the farthest option on this list, but it is also one of the largest fall attractions.

The 2026 season runs September 19 through November 1 and includes an 8-acre corn maze, pumpkin patch, U-pick flowers, farm animals and dozens of additional attractions.

Daytime farm admission is listed at $16 before online fees for guests age 3 and older.

There is also a separate haunted experience on Friday and Saturday nights in October.

Best for: turning pumpkin picking into a full fall road trip.

How to choose the right pumpkin patch

If you want to stay closest to Charlotte and spend as little as possible, start with Hodges Family Farm.

If small children and animals are the priority, Hunter Farm is hard to beat.

For the most authentic pick-it-off-the-vine experience, Carrigan Farms stands out.

If you want multiple activities and a longer outing, Almond Farm, Outlaw Acres and Shelby Corn Maze make more sense.

And if your ideal fall afternoon includes pizza, animals and room to relax, Wise Acres offers one of the most distinctive setups near Charlotte.

Check before you leave

Fall farm schedules can change because of weather, crop conditions and sold-out reservation windows.

Before driving out, check the farm’s official site for the latest availability, reservation requirements and operating hours.
