Spark Centro: East Charlotte’s New $20M Hub for Latino Entrepreneurship

A groundbreaking new East Charlotte development is bringing entrepreneurship resources, workforce training, coworking space, and a vibrant marketplace designed to help Latino and immigrant-owned businesses thrive.

East Charlotte is getting a major investment, and it could reshape the future of entrepreneurship in the Queen City.

On May 14, city leaders, business owners, and community advocates officially broke ground on Spark Centro, a massive $20 million economic development hub coming to the Albemarle Road corridor.

Located near the intersection of Albemarle Road and W.T. Harris Blvd, the project is designed to become a launchpad for Latino and immigrant entrepreneurs across Charlotte.

This is not just another office building.

Spark Centro is expected to include between 34,000 and 45,000 square feet of business support services, coworking space, workforce development resources, event space, and a community marketplace focused on helping small businesses grow.

Why Spark Centro Matters

East Charlotte has long been one of the city’s most diverse communities, but many residents and entrepreneurs have historically lacked access to the same level of investment seen in other parts of Charlotte.

Spark Centro is part of the City of Charlotte’s Corridors of Opportunity initiative, which focuses on bringing economic investment, jobs, and resources into historically underserved areas.

The project is a collaboration between the Latin American Chamber of Commerce of Charlotte (LACCC), the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and several major private-sector partners.

It also represents another major milestone in East Charlotte’s ongoing transformation alongside projects like Eastland Park and other redevelopment initiatives happening throughout the corridor.

A $20 Million Investment in Small Businesses

The project is backed by several major organizations, including Bank of America and the Leon Levine Foundation.

Under the leadership of LACCC CEO Manuel Rey, Spark Centro is being built to help Latino-owned and immigrant-owned businesses scale faster while creating more pathways into economic mobility.

But the investment goes beyond construction.

The funding will also support:

• Entrepreneurship coaching
• Business education programs
• Workforce development initiatives
• Hiring events
• Community networking opportunities
• Small business incubation

The goal is to create a long-term ecosystem where entrepreneurs can launch, grow, and sustain businesses right here in East Charlotte.

What Will Be Inside Spark Centro?

The facility is designed to function as a one-stop destination for entrepreneurship, workforce training, and community engagement.

Here’s what’s planned:

Entrepreneurship Hub: Business coaching, workshops, startup guidance, and mentorship programs for entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Shop La Plaza Marketplace: A rotating marketplace where local entrepreneurs can showcase products, food, and services while connecting directly with the community.

Convening Hall: Flexible event space for hiring fairs, networking events, business conferences, and community programming.

Coworking Space: Affordable professional workspace for startups, freelancers, and growing businesses.

The design is expected to blend modern architecture with vibrant cultural elements that reflect the diversity and creativity of East Charlotte.

Built for One of Charlotte’s Most Diverse Communities

The Albemarle Road corridor is one of the most internationally diverse areas in Charlotte.

Nearly 20% of residents in the surrounding area are foreign-born, representing more than 60 countries from around the world.

Spark Centro aims to directly support this community by creating more access to entrepreneurship resources, workforce opportunities, and professional development programs.

The center is expected to serve roughly 1,300 participants annually, with plans for continued growth in future years.

For many residents, this could become the first centralized resource hub specifically designed to help immigrant and Latino entrepreneurs succeed at scale in Charlotte.

More Than Business

While entrepreneurship is the primary focus, Spark Centro is also designed to become a true community gathering space.

Corporate partners are already exploring opportunities to host recruitment events, networking programs, and hiring initiatives within the facility.

The project also includes plans for sustainable long-term operations through coworking memberships, event rentals, and ongoing partnerships.

That means Spark Centro is not intended to be a short-term development project. The vision is for it to become a permanent economic anchor for East Charlotte.

When Will It Open?

Construction is officially underway, with organizers targeting a grand opening sometime in late 2026.

In the meantime, Spark Centro is actively seeking additional partners, sponsors, and organizations interested in participating in future programming.

Why This Matters for Charlotte

A stronger East Charlotte benefits the entire city.

When small businesses grow, local jobs increase, neighborhoods strengthen, and more money stays inside the local economy.

Projects like Spark Centro also help preserve the cultural identity that makes Charlotte unique while creating new economic opportunities for future generations.

And for residents across Charlotte, “Shop La Plaza” could quickly become one of the city’s most exciting new destinations for discovering local food, shopping, and entrepreneurship.

The Bottom Line

Spark Centro is one of the biggest investments East Charlotte has seen in years.

With support from city leaders, major foundations, and the business community, the project represents a major push toward economic mobility, entrepreneurship, and long-term community growth.

Key Details:

Location: 8805 E. WT Harris Blvd
Investment: $20 million
Focus: Latino entrepreneurship, workforce development, and small business growth
Feature Attraction: “Shop La Plaza” marketplace
Opening Target: Late 2026

East Charlotte is evolving fast, and Spark Centro is positioned to become one of the most important economic and cultural hubs in the area.

Stay tuned. This project could become a game-changer for the future of the Queen City. 🚀
