Local farmers markets in Gastonia, Mount Holly, and Belmont are now accepting SNAP benefits for the 2026 season, making it easier for families to shop local while stretching their grocery budgets.
The biggest update this year is Belmont. For the first time, the Belmont Farmers Market at Stowe Park is joining the program, expanding access to fresh produce and locally sourced food in the western Charlotte region.
Here’s how it works.
SNAP recipients can visit the welcome booth at participating markets, choose how much they want to spend, and swipe their EBT card just like a debit card. In return, they receive tokens or vouchers that can be used with vendors throughout the market.
Those tokens can be used for essentials like fruits, vegetables, eggs, meat, bread, and other locally produced foods.
It’s a simple system, but it makes a real impact.
Gaston County Public Health officials say programs like this help reduce barriers to healthy food, expand options for families, and strengthen the local food system at the same time.
In a region that continues to grow, this kind of access matters more than ever.
Market Locations & Times:
• Gastonia Farmers Market: Saturdays (April–November) + Tues/Thurs (May–October)
• Mount Holly Farmers Market: Saturdays (April–October)
• Belmont Farmers Market: Sundays (April–October) — now accepting SNAP for the first time
If you’ve been looking for a way to eat healthier, support local farmers, and make your dollars go further, this is one of the easiest wins this season.
