Automaker's $207 Million Investment to Revitalize Plaza Midwood's Commonwealth Development |
Scout Motors, an emerging automotive manufacturer, has announced plans to establish its corporate headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, bringing over 1,200 jobs to the area by 2030.
The company will invest nearly $207 million in the project, selecting the Commonwealth development in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood as its central hub for leadership and innovation.
Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating, "This project is a major job creation milestone for the city and will serve as a catalyst for continued revitalization in a part of our city that's seeing new life through infrastructure and development."
The headquarters will house executive leadership, research and development, finance, IT, sales, marketing, and other key corporate functions.
Initial staffing and office development are set to begin in 2026, with full operations scaling up over several years.
Scout Motors plans to relocate 365 employees from Northern Virginia and hire an additional 835 positions locally, offering an average salary of $172,878, significantly exceeding the Mecklenburg County average.
President and CEO Scott Keogh highlighted Charlotte's appeal, noting, "Charlotte is the ideal home for Scout Motors—a place as dynamic as our people and brand, where heritage and pride meet progress and innovation."
The decision follows a comprehensive, multi-state evaluation, with Charlotte emerging as the optimal location due to its thriving talent pool, world-class universities, and reputation as a launchpad for bold ideas.
Governor Josh Stein emphasized the significance of the investment, stating, "Scout Motors is revitalizing an iconic American brand, creating high-quality jobs, and building the next great automotive company right here in the Carolinas."
The City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County collaborated with the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the state General Assembly, and other partners to facilitate the project.
The Commonwealth development, a 12-acre mixed-use project in Plaza Midwood, is undergoing significant transformation.
Phase I includes the revitalization of two historic buildings, the addition of over 150,000 square feet of Class A office space, and a 383-unit luxury apartment complex.
New businesses such as Sweetgreen, Bartaco, and Sweathouz have recently opened, contributing to the area's revitalization.
Scout Motors' decision to establish its headquarters in Charlotte underscores the city's growing prominence in the automotive industry and its commitment to fostering innovation and economic growth.
